Chapter 1: Here Is The First Miracle That Happened. I Had Died From Being Electrocuted When I Was 15 Years Old And God Brought Me Back To Life.
This is what happened at that time, my family was living in the Bahamas in a two-story house. Island life for me wasn’t exactly like how Jimmy Buffet crooned in his songs. On the night that I was electrocuted my father had just punished me. I was forced to stay in my room on the second floor. It was raining and despite that, I decided to sneak out. There was a pipe near my window where the electric lines came into the house. Whenever I wanted to sneak out, I would always climb down it to the concrete railing around our porch. It was only at least a 6 to 7 foot jump to the ground and then I was free. A little rain wasn’t going to stop me from going out and party with my friends.
I threw my shoes down to the ground below and started the descent down. The moment my foot touched the concrete railing, one of my hands became stuck to the electric pole. I tried to pry myself loose, so I reached up with my other hand, but that hand also got stuck. Electricity started to surge through my body and I knew I was in a lot of trouble. I cried out for my brother to come and turn off the electricity from the fuse box. If my brother would have turned off the fuse box, he still wouldn't be able to do me any good because I was holding onto the main electric line that was coming into the house. I asked God to save me because I didn't want to leave this world yet like so many of my other friends that had already passed away .
I remembered my mother telling me that whenever I was in trouble, all I would have to do is call out to God and He would be there. I cried out to God when I felt my spirit leaving my body. There was so much electricity going through my body at that time. I could not stand it any longer and that's when I passed out thinking I was going to die. I thought my life had ended that day. When I came to, I didn't know how long I had been lying on the ground. All I could remember is when I came to, I was lying on my back with both of my hands crossed over my heart. I could feel my heart beating. That’s when I knew I was alive. There were no burns on my hands. There were no scratches or bruises on my back. I knew God had sent an angel to take me off the electric pole. And I am still alive today at 65 years old. And that experience is just one reason why I am still a believer that miracles still happens today.
Chapter 2: I Was Just A 16 Year Old Kid Spearfishing In Nassau Bahamas When I Thought I Was Going To Be Eaten By A Large Type Of Fish.
I was only 16 and I was still living in the Bahamas. I had friends who would take me spear fishing and diving with them at a place we called Booby Rocks. The area was lush with fish and was the place to do some spear fishing. On that particular day, I loaded up my spear gun and dove into the water. I swam about 100 feet away from the boat. The water was only about 20–30 feet deep, but you could see the fish all around the shoals. I shot at a turbot and hit him on his side. The spear did not penetrate its hard leather type skin. The turbot quickly went down into his hole in the sand. I swam over to the hole to retrieve my spear.
As soon as I turned around he came out of another hole and proceeded to attack me. What I didn’t realize was that though this fish was only about a foot long, it had teeth like a piranha. The fish continued to try to bite me at least 4 to 5 times as I kept him away from me by kicking him with my fins. Every time he would bite at me you could hear his jaws snapping shut. I finally got away from him by swimming to the other side of the shoal. By then I was completely out of air. I had to swim back up to the surface to fill my lungs back up with oxygen and then I swam back down to the bottom where there was a group of fish gathering around the side of the shoal.
There were so many different types of fish like yellowtail jacks and a large hog fish and the school of red snappers and some parrot fish and angel fish and so many other types of fish were gathering on the side of the shoal. I decided to sneak up on the group of fish and try to spear one. Out the corner of my eye I spotted a young Goliath grouper that looked to be around 25 pounds. I said to myself, this fish will make a good meal tonight. I got my spear gun ready to spear this young Goliath grouper on the side of the shoal. As I started to get closer to the shoal, I saw this dark shadow covering me and part of the shoal.
This fish was so big that it blocked the sunlight. What created this large dark shadow that hung over me? This gigantic fish swam down where I was and came in the back of me. I turned around and there we were face-to-face. He was looking at me and probably thinking I would make a good meal tonight for him. That's what I was thinking about when I saw his mouth opening and closing in front of me. I slowly backed away from him and started to swim backwards towards the boat pointing my spear gun at his face.
I don't know what type of fish it was, but he was at least 7 feet long and you know that crazy fish followed me all the way back to the boat. I remembered my mother telling me to always talk to God whenever you think you are in trouble, just like my first experience, I began to talk. I told God, “This is your fish and I do not want to shoot it, but if it comes any closer to me, I will have to shoot him.” He swam closer. I began thinking of the story of Jonah and the whale. I remember thinking that at any minute, I could end up like Jonah in the belly of this giant fish.
But a few more moments passed and the fish changed direction. The situation wasn't as bad as I thought. I thanked God that I was not in any real danger. So I climbed back on the boat and I told my friends what happened, that this gigantic fish followed me all the way back to the boat. My friend said he is probably still down there near the boat. He said I'll tell you what I'm going to do, we will see if we can catch this fish. So he got his hand line out which was at least 150 lb. test nylon line and he got one of the live fish out of our live well. He hooked the fish in his back near his tail, that way the fish could swim freely.
He didn't use any lead sinker, that way the fish would not sink all the way down to the bottom. He took the Ham line and threw the fish out in the water about 20 to 30 feet away from the boat. We waited for the fish to take the bait but it looked like the fish was not interested in our bait. 15 minutes went by and he decided to put the spool in the 5 gallon bucket and then he walked over to the other side of the boat to get his gloves on just in case the fish took the bait. Right after he put his gloves on, he heard a racket going on in the 5 gallon bucket. The fish had taken the bait and started to run the line out of the bucket.
He ran back over to the bucket and grabbed the line and wrapped it around his hand. We all know that's a no-no. He was about to learn a valuable lesson. The fish could have cut his hand off he was very lucky this time, the fish was so big that it almost pulled him out of the boat. We all grabbed a hold of him and he was able to get the fish line from around his hand. He quickly tied it on the bow of the boat. We were about to go for a wild ride with this fish pulling our boat. We were afraid that he was going to sink our little boat that we were in. We started taking water over the bow as he was pulling us so fast that the bow would go under the water sometimes and my friend said we need to cut the line and let this fish go before he sinks our boat.
So we ended up cutting the line and letting our biggest catch of the day go. We still didn't do to bad, that day while I was down on the bottom spearfishing, my friends were hand line fishing and they did a lot better than me. They caught a couple of rock Heinz. They are family to the grouper. They also caught a lot of gray snappers and they travel in big schools. So you see, we didn't do too bad after all, we came away with a great fish story. And we had enough fish to split between us. I would say at the end of the day we had a great time together, and a very good story to tell our friends about the big one that got away.
Chapter 3: This Is When God Let Me Feel His Power That He Haves. When God started to deal With Me Because I Rebelled Against Him.
In 1971, when I was 19 years old, I was living with my first wife. We weren’t yet married at the time and were just living in sin. Before you start to judge me too harshly, let me give you a little overview of what my life was like up until that moment. When I was 16, I had to leave my home because my father was an alcoholic. Every Friday after work, my father would start drinking and he wouldn’t stop until Sunday night or Monday morning. Sometimes he would come home at 2 or 3 o’ clock in the morning and beat my stepmother, just as he had beat my real mother.
Every Friday my mother knew that my father would be coming home drunk so she would make sure that we were in the house at six o'clock to eat our supper and make sure that we took a bath. That way we would be very clean if my father wanted to check us out. He was always looking for a reason that he could start an argument with my stepmother so he could get mad enough to beat on us or beat my step mother up. My stepmother would make sure that she did everything that she was supposed to do so that she could avoid any arguments with my father. This one particular morning he came home about two or three o'clock and he proceeded to wake everyone up in the house. He shouted at my stepmother that he wanted to know if she had gave my brother and me a bath. Then he shouted out our names Timmy and AC come downstairs right now.
We knew that we were in big trouble. He said to my brother, come here I want to see if you're clean. My stepmother tried to stick up for us and said of course they are clean. I made sure they took a bath before I put them to bed. Then my father called my brother over to him and took his hand and started to rub his hand on my brother's hands, until the dirt came off of my father's hands and went on my brother's hands. He said, you call this clean? His hands are dirty. He proceeded to get a construction boot and made my brother put his hands on the table and began to beat him across his knuckles until the skin was coming off. Then he grabbed my brother up and took my brother way out in the back where we had an old tin shed. He tied my brother up and put him in the shed and then he came and got me and took me out side and put me in the lead shed where he kept tons of lead.
That whole night I was scared that the big rats that we had in there were going to bite me. I had to take pieces of lead and throw them at the the rats to the keep them away from me. While I was in that lead shed I got lead poisoning. That's why I cannot read today. Lead poisoning causes the brain to not function right, it stops your brain from retaining words. One minute you hear the word and the next minute you forget it. One thing I found out about lead poisoning once it is sent to your bloodstream is that it affects your kids also in their DNA structure. My first child, which was my daughter Elizabeth ended up getting the worst of the lead poisoning from me. She had the same problems that I had. I found out 30 years later that she could not read or write. She thought that she had just dyslexia like me. She still doesn't know that she was affected by my DNA which had lead poison in it.
Now my son Asa ended up getting a smaller portion of the lead poisoning in my DNA but not as bad as my daughter got. Also my youngest son Daniel only got a touch of it. It only affected his reading a little bit but he has overcome his problem now. He can read as good as anyone now. Now let me take you back to the main story. This one Saturday my brother and I were outside in the yard working on a project together and my father had just drove up in the driveway. He just got back from drinking all night. He called my brother over to his car and for some reason or the other they got into an argument. My brother wasn't a kid anymore, he was at least 17 years old and he was sick and tired of getting beaten by my father. He told my brother to do something and my brother refused to do it. The next thing I noticed my father reached under his car seat and pulled out a police billy.
I knew if they got into it someone would get hurt real bad. I ran over to them and I got in between the both of them trying to stop the fight. My father thought that I was coming over to help my brother out to fight him. He took his police stick out and hit me over my head and split my head open where I just had my head stitched up two days ago when I was swinging out of a coconut tree using a rope that wasn't strong enough to hold me. The line broke and I hit my forehead on the corner of a very large log. I had to have my head stitched up with 45 stitches in it. Now my father had Just split my head back open again. When he saw the blood coming out of my head it sobered him up. He knew that he needed to take me back to the hospital to get my forehead stitched back up. At least it stopped them from killing each other. I call that using your head the hard way to solve a problem.
I decided to run away from home and moved in with a guy who was a friend of mine. In my mind, I thought it was better to live with him than to live on the streets. Either option had to be better than staying home and being beaten by my alcoholic father. Anything was better than that. By the time I was 19, my father had moved to the States with my stepmother. I was still in the Bahamas and met Ginger, the woman who would be my first wife, in a sandwich shop and I asked her for a date. I asked if she believed in love at first sight. She said no and I went along with her. Later that night, we became very close friends and that’s when she decided to live with me in a house that my father had built. The house was split into two houses On one side of the house, a Haitian family was renting. In those days, we were peace-loving kids and the only two things we believed in was partying and sex.
Most of the time, we didn’t have anything to eat. Ginger would go next door and borrow $.25 in Bahamian money because neither of us were working at the time. $.25 would be enough to buy a box of macaroni-and-cheese and the two of us would split it. It was a generous amount that would fill us. Sometimes, though, we’d have enough money on hand to buy sardines, bread, and ketchup and that was a luxurious meal for us. In our bedroom, we only had a box spring. Because we lacked a mattress, we put cardboard over the box spring so that we could sleep on it. Eventually, though, the box springs would come through and we’d have to go out and get more cardboard. We didn’t have electricity, I had to take a 12-volt battery from an old car and convert the DC current to an AC current just to be able to listen to a radio and a record player.
Though we were dirt poor, we loved each other fiercely and thought that our love would be enough. It was in this environment that our daughter, Elizabeth, was conceived. Most of the time, the two of us would invite friends over and they’d bring a bottle of rum. We’d get drunk, smoke pot, and get high. During all of this, it never occurred to me that God had saved me just four years prior from being electrocuted. The only thing I cared about was having a good time and being with the girl I loved. One day when Ginger and I were partying, she lit up a joint. She took a puff and then I took a puff. The radio was on playing “You Want to Get Higher?” from Sly and Family Stone. A voice whispered in my head and told me that I was going to get higher than I ever had been and it wouldn’t be from pot. I was tapping my feet to the beat of the music and as it stopped, I felt a cold sensation cover my body. My feet couldn’t stop tapping. I had never felt like this before. I had only taken one hit off the joint, so I knew I wasn’t high.
I thought that I was going to die. I asked Ginger to go outside and leave me. I didn’t know what was going to happen to me. I am not sure if she was ever with me while I went through the trial God put me through. My eyes were closed and I laid down on the bed. Two hands went around both of my ankles and this force shook me in the bed as if I were a rug. This went on for a little while and it began to frighten me and then It stopped. I began talking to God, telling Him that it was my mind and my body and I could do whatever I wanted to do with them. I quoted to Him from His Scripture where it says that we have a freedom of choice. I wanted to be able to get high and I told Him that He created the pot. If He didn’t want me to get high, then He shouldn’t have created pot in the first place. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have done that because that’s when He got really angry with me.
He told me that He created all things and there were certain things that we should not and could not touch. For instance, He created creatures that were poisonous. Would I also be foolish enough to pick one up and play with it? I told Him to leave me alone. Of course, this only angered him more. He proceeded to show me that He had power over me. Every time I would rebel against him, He would wrap my tongue around his finger. I was very scared and did not know how long he would do this to me. He didn’t hurt me and I don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression that he did. Because God is a loving God, he just wanted to get my attention, and he did. He showed me a vision of me being inside of a casket. In the grave on my casket there was a diamond shape glass that I could look out of. He showed me that my father and mother were looking down at me being in the grave.
He was letting me know as they were throwing dirt on the top of my casket and a wreath. God wanted me to wake up and see that if I kept living the life I was leading, I would be in the grave. The next vision was of my skeleton on the ceiling. Every bone on the skeleton was numbered. The ceiling boards were horizontal and every time I would see them move, I would feel the bones inside my body also moving. No matter how hard I tried to make it stop, I could not. Finally, He released me. After that, it was impossible for me to get high from pot. I couldn’t even walk into a room where my friends were smoking it because He would take my tongue and wrap it around His finger again. I felt like I had something very special with God and I wanted to tell the whole world. I was Catholic at the time and I was so excited, I told my priest what had happened to me. My priest listened to everything I had to say to him and he told me that it wasn’t God.
I was high and the devil himself had taken a hold of me. Who was I to think that I was so special that God would do these things to me? I began to doubt myself and started to believe the priest’s words. Weeks went by and one day, as I was coming down Hopkins hill, which was one of the largest hills in the Bahamas I decided to talk to God. I didn’t think He would answer me or even give me a sign, but I was very scared because I did not want to anger Him. I proceeded to use His Scripture again by saying, “I knew that the Bible says that thou shalt not tempt the Lord, thy God, but God, I would like to know if you were the one who did that to me. Could you show me a sign by doing it again?” He lifted my tongue up inside of my mouth and proceeded to shake it. I told Him that I believe Him. I was so excited to know that God touched me.
I wanted to tell the world I was special in God's eyes. But later that day, when I was looking through the Bible, I saw how no one believed John the Baptist when he was trying to prepare the way of the Lord. Many people had encounters with God in the Bible, and just like with John the Baptist, others had a hard time believing them as well. As I write this book, I feel as if a lot of people won’t believe these stories either. When I’ve told people these stories before, there have been many who had believed that God has had a presence in my life and saved me numerous times, but there were so many others who just did not believe. I just wanted to tell my stories and let everyone know that God does have His hand on you and if He wants you do to do something, He knows how to get your attention. If you don’t slow down to hear the Holy Spirit, He will find a way to slow you down.
I had to lose everything: my wife Ginger and my two children, Asa and Elizabeth, before He got my full attention. I went through depression for 14 years and the last time I saw my daughter she was only 7 years old. On February 21, 2010, God showed me a new miracle: He allowed me and my daughter to reunite after 30 years. I thank God every day that I was able to see my daughter at least one more time before I leave this world. I forgave my wife Ginger for kidnapping my kids and leaving the state of Florida and moving to New York. I could have had her locked up for kidnapping my kids and taking them out of Florida. I thought about if I did that the kids would have grown up hating me for doing something like that to their mother. The only right thing she should have done so I wouldn't be hurt so bad, was to stay in Florida until the kids were grown up and left her home.
That way I still could be a father to them. But I didn't have that same opportunity she had to be a part of their lives. No one knows the hurt that a father could go through or a mother can go through when you take the kids away from each other. I would not wish that hurt on any mother or father. And you don't know the hurt until you go through it yourself. Many times I thought about taking a gun and ending my life so I wouldn't have to go through any more pain. But I knew that would be wrong to take my own life because God says we will have trials and tribulations that we have to go through on this Earth. One day it'll be all over and no one will have to hurt again and that day is coming very soon. God showed me in his word that I had to forgive Ginger for what she'd had done to me. His word says if you cannot forgive your brother or your sister that He cannot forgive you for your sins.
Ephesians 4:32 ESV / Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Matthew 6:15 ESV / But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
1 John 1:9 ESV / If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Matthew 18:21-22 ESV / Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.
Matthew 6:14-15 ESV / For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
James 5:16 ESV / Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Chpter 4: This is when I left the Bahamas and came over to the US to live with my father in Jacksonville Florida. This miracle happened in 1969. I was only 17 years old and we flipped over in a car three times in the car and the car caught on fire.
When I was 17, I had been living in the United States for about a year and was living in Jacksonville. I was a wild, rebellious teenager who had not given his life to the Lord yet. Even though the Lord saved my life, I decided to dismiss the incident as just pure luck. On the evening of Halloween in 1969, my brother and I and two of our friends whose names were Marvin, and Daniel, we all decided to go out. On that particular evening, we decided to have a little Halloween party of our own and were having a great time (so we thought) drinking and smoking marijuana.
Somewhere between the haze of the marijuana and the buzz of the alcohol, Marvins brought up that there was an old haunted house that someone was using to scare kids and it wasn't too far from where we were at that time. They use it every year for halloween. We were all curious to know how scary the place really was, so we hopped into a car that Marvin owned and drove off. As we were close to the haunted house, there was an intersection that we needed to turn on. There was a car coming from the opposite direction. Marvin saw it and told us that he was going to beat the car across the road.
He didn't judge how fast the other car was coming. After Marvin's car got halfway across the road, the other car slammed into the driver's side. He hit us so hard that our car started to flip over and over and and while the car was flipping it caught on fire. It finally came to a stop on the side of the road. Everything happened so fast. My jaw hit the back of Marvin's head, and instantly I dislocated my jaw. Daniel managed to see what was about to happen and he ducked down thinking he would be safe. But his head hit the back of the car seat where there was a steel bar that supports the car seat. It took the shape of his head, that's how hard he hit the metal bar.
My brother hit his head against the windshield, cutting his head open. As for Marvin, his ribs hit the steering wheel with such force, that four of his ribs broke. The dashboard split and as his leg smashed against it, the dashboard cut his leg open. The car was still in a upside down position. I was the first one to manage to climb out of the car. I managed to pull everyone out the car and away from the car while the car was still on fire. That's what someone told me later. I still could not remember pulling anyone out the car. What I did remember was holding my brother in my lap, and hoping and praying that he wasn’t dead.
There was just so much blood everywhere. I shook him, hoping that he’d open his eyes. He just couldn’t be dead. He was my brother. And then, by some sort of miracle, he opened his eyes and whispered that he was all right before he passed out again. Either way, there’s a blankness in my memory after that. I remembered becoming aware of everything again in Mrs. Kitchen’s car. Apparently I had been staying with her and she was taking me to the hospital—not to admit me, no, but to visit my brother who was in a coma. I was confused. I told her of the “dream” that I thought I had, but she kindly told me that no, it was not a dream and that it had actually happened three days ago.
She also reassured me that the doctors were hopeful of my brother’s condition and that everyone else was fine. She gave me a weird look, as if she was assessing my own condition and if I needed to stay in the hospital myself since three days had passed and I had no recollection of what had occurred during those three days. But there was one thing that I was certain of: This incident was the third time that God had His hand on my life. He had watched out for everyone in the car and because of Him, we were all safe and alive.
Chapter 5: This miracle happened Back in 1978,I Was Not A Christian Back at this time. I was a man who loved to party If the music was alright I would party all night. I dove off a two story building In 3 feet of water and lived to tell about it.
This night while we were partying I got pretty drunk and climbed up on a two-story building and dove off a two story building In 3 feet of water and lived to tell about it. Back in 1978, I was still with my wife. I was only 26 years old and we were living in Boynton Beach at the time. We were living in an apartment by the beach because when we decided to buy a house, the paperwork got all messed up, and we had to look for somewhere new to live. Because it was summer, we ended up getting a great deal for the apartment since summer is the slow season in the area. It was a time of my life when I still had not given my life to the Lord yet. I used to be a person who loved to party all the time. If the music was all right I would party all night.
On that particular day, I had been drinking all day with both my first wife and her mother. The party had long been over, but I continued to drink. We got into an argument. I can’t remember what it was about, probably something inconsequential, but I wanted to walk away because I refused to argue in front of her mother. But as I began to walk away, my wife hit me in the back of my head with her fist. That made me very angry. I turned around not thinking and punched her in her face knocking her to the floor and then I reached down to grab her to hit her again and her mother said, for God sake, Ace don't hit her anymore.
I was too drunk to care about what was going on or what I was doing. I stumbled outside with a tall glass of Kahlua and rum. I looked up at the building as I drank my drink and then I climbed to the top of the building. It was only two stories, not too terribly high for an apartment building, but high enough to jump off and do some severe damage if I wasn’t paying attention. Courage and bravery (and probably a bit of stupidity) was surging through me and I dove off the building, right into the deep end of the pool I did it twice successfully. I was feeling so proud of my effort, that on the third dive, I wanted someone to watch my new amazing feat.
I moved over, closer to the main part of the building because I saw the apartment owner’s son. “Hey! Watch me do this!” I shouted over to him. He looked startled at first, probably because he wasn’t expecting someone to be on the roof of a building, and before he could say anything, I did a jack-knife dive. The first two successful dives, I had jumped off the building to land on the far end of the pool—the deep end—because I knew that would be safe. But without an extra push out, I would be landing in the shallow end of the pool, which was only three feet deep. It was like I sobered up immediately in the middle of that last dive and I suddenly knew I had made a major mistake.
I cried out to God, hoping he would get me out of this predicament. Things were moving in slow motion and then suddenly, everything just stopped. I heard two voices. One voice was Satan and the other was the Lord’s. One voice told me to stretch out my hands when I hit the bottom of the pool and flip over backwards. The second voice told me to slap the water with my hands, bend my body in an arch position, and slap the bottom of the pool to pull myself into an upright position. Which voice was the right voice? Thankfully, God gives us common sense to help us choose the right answers.
I chose the second voice, which I now know to be the voice of God, because it made more sense. If I had hit the bottom of the pool with my hands stretched forward, hoping to flip over, my arms would have broken because they would not have been able to handle my body traveling at my current speed while also having the force of gravity being pulled on it. I think God was upset with me because of what I had done to my wife earlier and so I didn’t come out of the water perfectly fine. My chest, mouth, shins, and pelvic bone all hit the bottom of the pool. My body was covered in bruises. I felt like a big Mack truck had ran over me.
The manager's son saw a large gash on my forehead and the blood covering my face. I told the manager's son that I was going to go to bed as I was climbing out the pool. He told me that I needed to go to the hospital and have my head stitched up and have the doctor check me out. I might have caused a concussion. I started walking over to my table to get my towel so I could wipe the blood off my face. I told him I was okay and I went inside the apartment to go to sleep. I went into the bedroom and left my clothes on and got into the bed. Ginger was already asleep.
The next morning when Gin woke up she had turned over and saw all the blood on the bed and on my face and she thought I was dead. She started to scream out very loud and that woke me up. My face was all swollen and I couldn't open one of my eyes because the blood had it shut. My blond hair was crimson red and it was stuck inside of the crack on my forehead. I managed to get up and went into the bathroom to look at my face. It looked like I had got into a big fight with Muhammed Ali, and wow it looked like he beat me to a pulp.
It looked like I was getting paid back for what I did to Ginger. I washed all the dried up blood off my face. Then I got two pieces of tape and pushed the crack together on my forehead and put two pieces of tape to hold the cut together. I left it that way until my cut was healed completely. It didn't leave a scar on my forehead too bad. However, I was still able to walk away and tell the story because God is watching out for all of us all the time. In your hour of need, all you need to do is call out Jesus’s name and He will help you through your situation. Even though I was not a born-again Christian yet, He was there for me.
Chapter 6: People Could Hardly Believe That The Oil Tank I Was Working On Caught On Fire And Did Not Blow Up.
God had His Hand on the Tank and Stopped the Tank from Blowing Up! I returned to Jacksonville in 1979 after my first wife left me. Shortly after, I began working for a man called Tim. He was a general contractor and he mostly focused on sandblasting gas and oil tanks and cleaning the tanks out with a highly flammable chemical. One Friday, Tim had some welders working on four different tanks close to where I was working. Those tanks were around 10 feet high and they were around 20 feet in diameter, so they weren’t tiny by any means.
Two welders were working together on one of the manhole covers. Now, before they started welding they were supposed to check each tank with a chemical gauge to see how much of the highly flammable chemical was still in the tank before they started to weld for safety reasons. The welders started to strike. When the sparks started to fly from their work, fire went through four tanks. At the time of the fire, I so happened to be on top of another tank nearby which was covered in a new wire and foam installation.
It began to shake. I wasn’t aware of what was happening down below and because I had seen an oil tanker come in earlier, I just assumed that it had hit one of the pipelines in the area, which would have caused the shaking. People began to run and shout. “Get off the tank! Get off the tank!” Was there a major accident that had happened out in the yard? Was it necessary that I go there? An explosion went off behind me. Startled, I turned and saw blue and yellow flames shoot out 10 to 15 feet in the air.
I heard smaller pinging sounds and looked down to see all the foam on the sides of the tank I was on starting to pop off. The entire tank was beginning to swell up like a balloon. I scrambled up and slipped and jumped off the tank and ran into the yard. We later learned that the welders had been injured because the fire had such a large force. All of their welding shields had been blown off them and one welder had burns on his face. Another had burns on his arm. They were all taken to the hospital. Thankfully, none of the tanks blew up and nobody died. I thank God that He stopped the tanks from blowing up. He is always watching over us even when we think He’s not there.
Chapter 7: This Miracle Happened In 1980. I Was Trying To Get My Life Back Together. After My Wife Left Me And Took My Two Children away from me. That was the hardest times of my life.
After my wife left me and took my two children away from me and went to New York, I had a very hard time trying to get myself back on my feet again. I decided that I was going to keep my house in Boynton Beach, Florida. It was very hard for me because I was going through so much depression. The only way I could get through each day was to drink and get drunk every evening after I put in a hard days work. I was still working for a company called Tom Gustusun. Anyone whoever had their kids taken away from them would understand what I was going through at that time.
Every day, the hurt knowing that I might not see my kids ever again was so hard for me to bear. It was basically driving me insane. What hurt me the most was that I was still in love with her. She never told me the reason why she was leaving me. I think that she just did not want to be married anymore, because when I was working all day she had to babysit the kids and she used to complain how boring it was for her each day. She would tell me when I came home from work. I think this is the reason why a lot of marriages break up. A woman when she gets married loses a lot of her freedom.
They cannot do the things they used to do and raising kids is no fun when you have to look after them 24 hours a day. Ginger was tired of this and she wanted to get out of the house and away from her responsibility. She wanted to feel her freedom and start working again. I didn't want her to work. I felt that she needed to be with the kids and to be a mother to them. I didn't like to have to go to work myself every day. I also felt that I lost my freedom being that I had responsibility now to take care of my family. She pleaded with me to let her go to work. I felt that I needed to do this in order for us to have peace in our family.
I agreed for her to start working. Now we needed to get a babysitter. I thought now we will have another expense that we will have to meet every month. But she had that worked out already with her mother. She agreed to give her mother a little money each week for babysitting, at least that worked out in our favor. The first job she ended up working for was in a restaurant as a waitress. That job didn't last too long after she got burned spilling hot coffee on herself. I don't know why she left that job. But she found another job she started working for Kmart. She worked for that company for quite some time.
I don't know if she got tired of working for Kmart or she got laid off for some reason or the other. Anyway she ended up not having a job for a while. She resumed her old job being back at home taking care of Elizabeth and Asa. It seemed like she didn't mind getting back in her old routine taking care of the kids. Matter-of-fact, I think she liked being back with the kids. I think she liked not having to go back to work for a while. She ended up taking care of the kids for a couple years. But, after a while she decided that she wanted to go back to work again. This time she wanted to work in a bar.
I told her that I didn't want her working in a bar. She said, what, you don't trust me? I told her it wasn't that I didn't trust her, it was that I didn't trust men that were drunk in a bar. She said, you can trust me I am not going to flirt with guys in the bar. In order for her to get the job she had to take a test. She needed to know how to mix drinks. She needed to get her license, that way she would be certified as a bartender. They gave her a book that had all the different types of drinks to learn. She learned all the different types of drinks and how to mix them in the last week.
They had her come in the next day where they tested her. She had no problem remembering each drink that she had to make. She passed her test with flying colors and they started her to work the next following day. I took her to work that evening and dropped her off. I don't remember what time exactly she had to work until I think it was around 12 or one o'clock that I was supposed to pick her up. I believe that was a time that she got off each night. Every night when she got home she was so happy. She made a lot of tips and her customers really liked her because she had a very good personality towards them. She would tell me how her day went if she had a good day and when she had a bad day.
I felt very happy that she liked her job, because when she came home we got along so much better, until one night when I went to pick her up. I parked my car in front of the building between some other cars. This particular night I came a little early so she was not expecting to see me out there in front of the building at this time. She came running out the building laughing with a guy running right behind her. This guy wrapped his arms around her and started to grab on to her breast. You can tell that she was really enjoying it because she did not push him away. You could have just imagined how that made me feel seeing another man grabbing ahold of my wife's breasts in front of me,
when you had trusted her so much thinking that she would never let another man do something like that to her. I almost was ready to jump out the car and beat the crap out of this guy. But I did not want to make a scene that she might have to lose her job and she would have a reason to blame me for it. I decided to let it go and not say anything about what I saw. But then I didn't trust her anymore when she would come home from work. I would check her pocketbook out
to see if she had any men's names in her pocketbook. I was waiting to catch her in a lie. That way when I accuse her of all the things that she has done she could not deny it. This one night, she came home and I was checking out her pocketbook. She had two men's names in her pocketbook. One of the guys had his phone number wrote down for her and he was supposed to meet her at the bar where he was working. This guy lived in Hollywood Florida. He would drive all the way from where he lived to a bar so he could see her. I didn't know exactly if she was doing anything with him.
When you find a man's name and telephone number and his address in your wife's pocketbook, automatically a red flag goes up. When I questioned her about this guy, she denied knowing him. I decided not to bring it up again and let it go until I can get more proof that she was messing around on me. This one night, she took the car and drove to work. She asked me did I mind and I said no it was okay, you can take the car. That night it was time for her to knock off from work and I waited on her to come home at one o'clock. But that never happened. I don't know if she went to see that guy in Hollywood Florida.
All I know is that some man drives up in the driveway at 3:30 in the morning and drops my wife off. She was very drunk and stoned off of some kind of drugs. I couldn't tell what it was that she had taken. She told me that she was too drunk and she could not drive the car. so she had some other man to drop the car off for her at the same time that she got dropped off. She started crying, telling me how sorry she was. She was wanting me to beat her but I told her I would never lay my hands on her again. She was hoping that I would beat her, that way she would have an excuse to leave me.
She already had a plan to leave me. I called up her father and I told him that he needed to come and pick up Ginger before I might do something that I would regret for the rest of my life. Jerry, her father, knew that I was very angry with her. He came and picked her up in about 20 minutes. After I had talked to him, he took her. I didn't see her anymore for about a couple of days. She called me and told me to come and pick her up the next morning and that she wanted to talk to me. We went to a restaurant and got us some breakfast. After we ate our breakfast, she dropped the bomb on me and told me that she wanted a divorce.
It was like her taking a knife and stabbing me in the heart. I couldn't believe the words I was hearing because I loved her so much and I did not want to lose her. I pleaded with her not to leave me but she already had made plans to take my kids and leave me and live with some guy in New York. She met him when she was with her mother on vacation. I told her that I would not give her a divorce. She moved back into the house with me for a couple of days. While I was out working, she packed up all of her stuff and took my Doberman and sold him to my best friend for $300. That way, she had the money to rent a car and she left me that same day.
This was the worst time of my life when this happened to me. I told myself that I needed to try to start my life over again. I moved back to Jacksonville and I was going through so much hurt. I was trying to get over Ginger. I started looking for some kind of work to pull me out of the depression I was going through. Back in the winter of 1980, I had started working on a dredge in Jacksonville. My job was to clean out the dredge pump when it got clogged up with big boulders.
I would have to go down inside the pump after they would shut down the dredge and then proceed to clean out all of the rocks that would interfere with the pumping while they were dredging. It was also my responsibility to change the cutter’s teeth whenever they got dull. This was the first time I had done this type of work, but I learned my job quickly and they promoted me to the pipeline where we would have to break the pipeline apart to add in more sections of pipe. Because of the season, we were working in freezing weather and they had me working on different shifts.
They dredged out channels so big ships could come through and the dredge would pump all the rock and sand out to the place where I was at, which was nine miles away. We were building an island and I would add pipes every time an area got filled with sand and rocks. Each of the pipes weighed about 800 pounds apiece and they were 18 inches in diameter. Two men were needed to handle the pipes. It wasn’t an easy job by any means. It was hard, laborious, and back-breaking. One night, after my shift, I was allowed to go to sleep while another worker was supposed to stay awake and watch the pipeline.
He accidentally fell asleep when he wasn’t supposed to, which caused all the sand to come up to the mouth of the pipe and clog it. We had over 200 pipes laid out. With the clog, a strange noise started coming from them and then they started to move like a snake before they blew apart. When the captain found out what happened, he wasn’t the most happiest person that day. Me and the other worker nearly got fired that day. It took two days for everyone to put the pipes back together. After everything was put back in order, the captain told me he had found the perfect job for me, but I wouldn’t find out until later.
Later that night, I was told to put on a life jacket. The captain then gave me a 30 pound sledgehammer. There was a rope that was connected to the handle and it looped around my wrist. I was implicitly instructed to not lose the sledgehammer. He wanted me to go on a pipeline and break a buckle that connected two pipes together. They had two push boats with me and one was tied to one of the pipes I would break apart, while the other was tied to the other pipe. They needed the pipes to be apart so that they could splice on a new pipe. Once they were ready and in place, I took the sledgehammer and hit the steel ring buckle.
It barely moved. The captain told me to hit it harder, so I gave it another hard whack. Water started to spout out of the side of the ring. It worried me a bit to see that because that indicated that the line still had a lot of pressure built in it. The captain assured me that everything was fine because they shut the dredge down a while ago and that there shouldn’t be any pressure in the line I was on. He told me to hit the buckle again as hard as I could. Though I was reluctant about it, I did what he told me to do and when I did, the buckle broke and released a thousand pounds of water pressure right into my chest.
I was sent flying off the pipe and into the water. When I hit the water, I went straight down to the bottom. It was pitch black and the only thing I could make out was the lights from the push boats way at the top. I was stuck to the bottom, about 20 feet below the surface. I tried to make my way back to the surface, but every time I tried, the sledgehammer would keep pulling me back down. I made three attempts. I don’t remember how long I was underwater—it felt like an eternity. Finally, I broke free from the sledgehammer and made my way to the surface. As I was swimming up, the crew above had already turned the push boats loose and had the engines running, searching for any signs of me.
I was worried that the barges would run me over and mince me up like hamburger meat, but I was running out of air and had to take a chance. Thankfully, two crewmen saw me as I came up to the surface. They quickly grabbed me and pulled me up onto a barge. I was freezing and trying to catch my breath, I noticed the captain and other crewmen had stripped down to their long johns, ready to come down and look for me. The captain wondered what took me so long to get to the top and I explained that the sledgehammer was tied to my wrist so that I wouldn’t lose it just as he instructed.
He told me I was never to tie the sledgehammer around my wrist ever again because my life was far more important than a piece of equipment. I thank God that He told me what to do when I was down at the bottom. Whenever you’re in a dangerous situation and you stay calm, the Holy Spirit will get you out of trouble. So listen to the Holy Spirit and He will pull you out of any type of dangerous situation you get yourself into.
Chapter 8:This story tells you how I got cancer and how I was Instantly Healed by God from Cancer In 1982,
I went to the Marshall Islands to sandblast and do some painting underwater for the U.S. government through a company. This happened about two years after my first wife and I divorced and I was still suffering from some depression. I had lost everything: my kids, my home, and the first woman I loved. Things were starting to slowly come together for me. I met Terry, my wife today, during my “great depression” years, but I didn’t want to be tied down to a woman because I didn’t think I could properly love another person yet. When I got the call to go to the Marshall Islands, it was as if a great door had just opened for me. I had been trying to think of a way to get out of my relationship with Terry for some time and I felt like this was the answer.
I wasn’t a Christian at the time yet. That still wouldn’t happen until later. Before I left to go to the Islands, I wrote a “Dear John” letter for Terry and told one of my drinking buddies to give it to her later, when he knew I was on the plane. I was already feeling bad because I knew I had lied to her—I had told her that I would send for her once I got settled overseas. I didn’t want to deal with her hurt feelings because I was a coward. Satan was living deep within me. I know today that Terry would have understood if I had just told her that I wasn’t ready to further our relationship yet because I was still dealing with the pain of losing my first love, but Satan will turn anybody into a lying coward, and even today, when Terry has long forgiven me, I still feel ashamed of how I treated her.
Once I got overseas, I wanted to forget about everything at home—the divorce, the loss, Terry—and so I dove myself into work. My job consisted of hanging under a 200-foot satellite dish, chipping away old rust, prepping it, and getting it ready to be painted. It was dangerous because I had 15 minutes to climb a 200-foot tower, take a light bulb out, put a new light bulb in, and hustle down to the safe zone so I wouldn’t get zapped by the waves. After doing this for about three months, I began to feel comfortable with the job and that’s when I let my guard down. One day, I must not have left the area as fast as I should have. When I got zapped by the tower, I didn’t feel it. I didn’t even know I had been zapped, so I went on to my next job site.
The foreman at the next job site told me to pick up a steel horse and take it to the other side of the shop. I did as I was told and the moment I set the steel horse down, I felt a terrific pain in my lower back. I tried to go on, but I couldn’t, and I left early. The next day, I couldn’t even get out of bed. In fact, I was stuck in bed for the next three days. The hamstrings on both of my legs pulled up like rubber bands. The pain became so severe, that they had me transported on an Army transport jet from Kwajalein to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii—a 12,652 mile trip that took two days. From Hawaii, I had to take a plane back to Florida. When you find yourself in excruciating pain, you want nothing more than to be near people who you love and who love you in return.
I was still feeling guilty over how I had treated Terry. Nothing I did in the Marshall Islands could ever really make me forget her. I hunted Terry down and asked her to take me back, though I was certain she wouldn’t want to have anything to do with me. She was going through some hard times herself and forgave me. Miraculously, she even took me back.Terry had just given her life to the Lord. When we eventually did get married, that’s when I gave my life to the Lord. Through all the pain that I was suffering, I still tried to stay active and was a part of the praise and worship team at Living Way Christian Fellowship Church. Though my life was settling down and I was now accepting the Lord, I was still going through a lot of pain at that time.
The doctor told me there was nothing he could do for me. He said I had bone cancer in my lower back. My bones were deteriorating and every time I went to use the bathroom, my urine would come out like if you mix milk and water together and you know how cloudy that would look because calcium deposits were exiting my body. The doctor gave me six months and I pointed my finger at the doctor and told him that I would not receive that report. Pastor Speight always told us to speak positive things in our life. Despite all the bad news he told me, I firmly believed I would be healed. I continued to believe I would be healed even when the devil attacked my shoulders with the same cancer that was eating my lower back.
It was, probably, the lowest part of my life. I suffered with this pain for 4 years. My pastor was my spiritual godfather. During service, he would ask for people to come up to the front if they needed any sort of healing and he would lay his hands on them. I went up to the altar a few times but I did not receive my healing at that particular time but I was still believing that I would be healed. The next following Sunday when Pastor Speight asked the congregation if anyone needed healing to come up to the altar so that they can lay hands on them and pray for their healing. I felt like I knew God and I felt like I had a strong relationship with God from my past experiences with him.
I knew I had faith but I didn't know if I had enough for my healing, so this time when the pastor called everyone to come up to the altar who needed healing. I got angry with God and I told him that I did not need to go up there for someone to lay hands on me to be healed. If he was going to heal me begin to heal me right here where I am. Shortly after that, I could feel two hands on my shoulders and then I could feel two fingers scraping away the calcium deposits from around my shoulders. I heard the Scripture about Jesus walking down the road and meeting a centurion. The centurion told Jesus that he was not worthy for Jesus to come into his house, that he was a man of authority and when he gave an order to his servants, it was obeyed.
He said that all Jesus had to do was just speak the Word and his servant would be healed. I was amazed that God put that in my head and I heard it just as clear as if I were having a conversation with someone next to me. That Sunday was my first physical healing. The next year, at another church, the cancer from my back was completely healed. I hadn’t asked God to do anything. I was just in the back of the church, praising and worshiping Him and thanking Jesus for being a part of my life. I could feel static electricity all over the top of my body and I knew God went inside my body. But the demon of cancer did not want to release me from its hold. It felt like a fight was raging inside of me or that I was on a roller coaster. You know that tickling sensation when you go over a hill really fast? Like how it feels as if your stomach is going up into your chest and sinks way down? My body felt that way twice and for a harrowing second, I thought I might throw up. But as I leaned over, the Lord became victorious and removed the demon from me. I immediately felt no more pain.
It can be hard to put into words when God works a miracle and heals you. If you’re skeptical about healing, I’d be more than happy to talk to you more about it. I know that God has been dealing with me since I was 15. He has touched me many times. And I know people find it hard to believe when I tell them about it. People also judge me because I can’t read or write. Even pastors ask me how I study my Scripture. All I have to do is find a Scripture and anything that I would like to study is no longer a problem for me. My mother used to sit me on her lap and read different stories to me. Like the story when God used Moses to free the children of Israel from the Pharaoh of Egypt. Also Like David and Goliath.
And like Samson and Delilah he wasn't allowed to cut his hair and how strong he was. In the story I really liked when God used Noah to repopulate the earth. My mother loved to read the Bible and every chance she would get she would read me a story out of the Bible. That's why I know so much about the Bible. And now I have what they call the natural reader that does all my reading for me. And I also have the soft where which is called the Dragon. And that does all my writing for me. But I still have to have my wife proof anything that I write. Because a lot of times the Dragon will put down the wrong words. But one thing I can say that the Dragon and the natural reader. Opened up a whole new world for me. My friends could now write me and I can read whatever they sent me. Life is so much better now.
Chapter 9: This miracle happened When I got hurt overseas on Kwajalein they had to send me back on a army transport plane. Back to Hickam base on Hawaii but we had to make an emergency crash Landing because we had ran out of gas. And I thank God that I lived to tell about it.
in 1982, I could not do any more work. The doctor told me to take it easy and lay by the pool to rest until he gave me the okay to start work again. I told the doctor to write me a note so that I can give it to the main office of global Associates. They were the ones that hired me to climb these 200 foot towers to do the sandblasting work for them. The company I was working for read the note that the doctor. Gave me to give to them. The head Foreman that was over me told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my back and that I had to return to work. In my current condition, I knew that the doctor was right and that there was no way I could work, so I went back to see him and told him what the company told me.
The doctor. was Furious, when I told him what my Foreman said. The doctor. wrote me another note, explaining my situation.I gave my foreman the note. He still looked a bit skeptical and told me that since I couldn’t work, then I was fired. That’s when they proceeded to have me kicked off the Marshall Islands and sent back to the States. When I left Kwajalein and began my journey to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, God had His hand on my situation. This event is one of the biggest reasons I decided to go back to church to give my life to the Lord. You see, just as we were flying over Hickam Air Force Base, the co-pilot came out to the area where everybody was seated and he calmly told explained that we needed to make an emergency landing because the plane was out of fuel. There was a typhoon pummeling the area and the planes were all flipped upside down on the base.
It was a delicate situation. He then proceeded to go down the line, giving everyone pillows and tightening our seat belts as he explained to us that we were all supposed to put the pillows in our laps and grab our ankles to prepare for the crash landing. In my mind, I imagined a big ball of fire erupting in the cabin, just like you would see in the movies. And then I imagined that everyone in the plane would get burned up and melted by the fire. That’s when I decided to pray, asking God to get us on the ground safely. The plane came down with such a force that it bounced off the ground one, two, three times, swaying us from side to side with each bounce.
I told the Lord that if He managed to keep everyone safe, I would never ever go on another plane for as long as I was alive. When the plane finally came to a complete stop, everyone shouted with joy. We knew God had protected us and had shown the pilot what to do. As I stepped off the plane, I thought I could kiss the ground, but I stopped and turned to the One who had saved us—God—and I gave Him thanks. I did not go on another plane until 2006 when my church asked me to go to Bolivia with them.
I had accepted their invitation. After my ticket was purchased and my passport was settled, I realized that I was frightened of going on a plane again due to my previous experience.Someone at the church told me that I had nothing to worry about because I had given my life to the Lord. That is when I let my fears of flying melt away. We all had a wonderful, blessed trip to Bolivia and I still thank God today for helping me overcome my fear of flying.
Chapter 10: This miracle happened in 1994. When my house was Invaded by Rats. we can't forget about the little miracles that happen in our lives. My wife and I prayed and asked God to help us out with this problem and he did.
When Terry and I bought our new home, there was a thick, wooded area in the backyard. We never noticed any sign of rodents, but after living there for about a year, we started hearing rats in the crawl space of our ceiling. We ignored the sounds, not thinking too much of it for about 2 or 3 months. It could’ve been anything and we had never seen any signs of rats in our house. But after another year, we knew we couldn’t ignore the problem any longer. The rats had multiplied and they weren’t small. You could hear them chasing each other all over the ceiling. They used to fight among themselves, making all sorts of noise at night and their favorite spot to congregate at night was over our bedroom. We began to speculate that they would bite holes through the sheet rock and fall down into our bedroom. At the time, we had a very young son and Terry didn’t want them affecting him and falling into his room, either. She was right, of course. We couldn’t let them harm our son. I was going to call the exterminators, but I knew if I did, they would just throw poison up there.
Though the poison would kill the rats, we would then be left with a lot of dead rats rotting above our ceiling. If you’ve ever smelled a dead rat in your home, you know how bad it can be. Imagine that smell multiplied by 10. It would take forever to get out. So I took a gamble and told my wife to pray about our situation. I had no idea that the miracle would happen as fast as it did. I told God in my prayers that the rats were His animals and I did not want to kill them, but if they did not leave, I would have no choice but to exterminate them. I asked Him if He would have them just leave my home and take all of their families with them. About two days after my prayer, all of the rodents left my home and never came back. We never even had any other rodent take up residence in our crawl space. It might seem like a small miracle, but for us, it was a big miracle.God has always been there for me. All I have to do is ask for His help. Even something small. I praise and worship Him and He is on my mind every single day. Just know that any time you need Him, He will be there. All you have to do is call.
Chapter 11: In August of 2004, I was Robbed at Gun Point and The Holy Spirit showed me in a vision the two people that was going to robbed me a week before they came to the house where I was working.
God is There with Us Always. It was August of 2004. By that time I had a contracting business and was doing a remodeling job. My partner and I had been working since July on the house. Shortly after taking on the job I received a vision from the Lord that the two men would come to rob me while I was working on the house. I had no idea when it would happen. Since I took on the job, 6 people had been robbed in the neighborhood. The Holy Spirit told me to pray every morning to cover myself in the blood of Jesus. I did it diligently every morning except that morning. That morning I forgot.
I had to run to Home Depot to get some supplies. Because I had used my credit card, I only had $200 in cash in my wallet. Keith, my partner, helped me unload the supplies in the house and then he had to go to the bathroom. Just as he left, I saw two young guys come up to the door. They looked exactly like the men in my vision. I was nervous but calm at the same time. As they knocked on the door, my mind scrambled to think of what I was going to say to them. I reluctantly opened the door and asked what they wanted. They told me that they lived on the corner and they asked if I had a business card because they needed some work done on their house, too. I didn’t have any business cards on me at the time and told them so.
However, if they wanted, they could come back around noon and I’d have some on hand then. I heard a voice tell me to shake his hand. As I reached my hand out the door to shake his hand, he grabbed me, and pulled me toward him, and stuck a 9 mm gun beneath my ribs and pushed me back inside the house. That's when I remembered that I didn't pray that morning like I always do to cover my self in the blood of Jesus like the Bible tells us to do. I took my hand, placed it on his gun and pushed the gun away from me. That's when I told them that you don't know who you are messing with. We are the king's kids. When I said that to them, they looked at me like I was crazy. I proceeded to shout at them and tell them that they would not harm anyone in here or kill anyone in here in the name of Jesus. I asked them what they wanted. They proceeded to tell me they wanted all of my money.
Very slowly and carefully, I reached for my wallet, showed them the $200, and told them they could take it and my entire wallet if they wanted. They also took my cellphone. The younger man told the man with the gun to force me on my knees, but I refused to go down. I told them again in a loud voice “In the name of Jesus, you will not kill or hurt anyone in this house in the name of Jesus!" Keith came out laughing as he heard me, thinking I was making a joke. He stopped laughing the moment he saw what was happening at the door. The gunman moved the gun from my ribs and pointed it at Keith’s face. They demanded that Keith give them all of his money as well, but he didn’t have any money because I hadn’t paid him yet. Keith proceeded to tell them as he was pointing his finger at me that I was his boss man and he has all the money. He said, "I don't have any money, he hasn't paid me yet for this job that I am doing for him."
The two men seemed to be angry about the situation. The gunman pushed me next to Keith and pointed the gun at the two of us, ordering us to go into a bedroom. I was worried that Keith might want to try to take over the situation, so I whispered to him to do what the gunman said because the Lord would watch over us. I wasn’t worried that Keith would be wary of what I said because he had just become a newborn Christian at my church, The Father’s House. The gunman continued to repeat get into the bedroom, but once we were in there, he wasn’t satisfied. He told us to go to the bathroom instead. As he ordered us around, I kept repeating that he was not going to hurt or kill anyone in this house in Jesus’s name.
When we got to the bathroom, he told us to kneel down on the floor. As he put the gun to the back of my head. I felt this was the and an I thought he was get ready to shoot us I started to talk to God and I told him I said everything I thought that I was supposed to say two gunmen that he was not going to hurt anyone of us, or kill us in Jesus name. I was thinking to myself any minute I would hear a bang and I told God I guess I will see you in a little while. And then the gunman said to me as he was pushing the gun against the back of my head don't move or turn around. The next thing I heard was the front door slamming, I don't know how he got to the front door so quickly. Without me hearing because he had a lot of obstacles that he had declined around to get to the door. I felt instant relief when I heard the door slam. Regardless, I knew if one or both of us were to get killed that day, we would be in Heaven with Jesus that same day. That's why we always need to have faith that the Holy Spirit will tell us what we need to do in a situation like that. I thank God that I lived to tell this testimony. God still performs miracles today.
Chapter 12: God Had a “Ram in the Bush” for Me. We Cannot Forget About the Smaller Miracles that Happen in Our Lives.
I was a newborn Christian. Matthew 25:35–40 says that the least you have done to your brethren, you have also done unto me.I knew an African-American man, whose name was Earnest Nee Smith. He was doing some work for me. When I took him home one night, he was telling me that he could not afford to move out of the bad area of town. His neighborhood was full of drunks and drug addicts. They would fight break into houses at night. I was sympathetic to his situation and told him that I would try to help him out by letting him move into my house for a short length of time. He told me that I wouldn’t have to pay him and that he would be more than happy to work for free as long as he was able to live in my house.
During the year that he lived with me, I decided to buy him a car so that he would have his own transportation. And naturally, he found out that I did not know how to read or write. Every night after work, he wanted to read different scriptures to me and there was one particular scripture that he really liked. It was Genesis 22:13 and it was about when God provided the ram in the bush for Abraham. It resonated with him because he said no matter what happened in his life, whenever he found himself in a tight spot, God would have the “ram in the bush” for him as well. His example was imagine that your car was to break down. You discover that you need a nail or a pin to put in a certain area of the car to make it drivable to your house. You begin to look around the area where you broke down at and
you find exactly what you need. The more that I thought about it, the more I realized that he was talking about miracles. I became hyper aware of the small miracles that were happening in my life at that time.
One day in 2004, I decided to ask my Christian Brother if he could throw a little work my way since he had quite a bit of work going on. My work was kind of slow back at that time. I found out that he was doing some work in the Eagle Rock Apartments, close to one of the apartments where I lived at. He told me he had a job in one of these apartments. My buddy John Thomas told me to pack up all of my drop cloths, my painting tools, and my empty 5-gallon bucket to work out of. I went upstairs to begin painting an apartment. Everything was prepared. I covered the floor with drop cloths and opened the 5-gallon buckets with paint in them, got my roller out, and began to coat it with paint when I realized that I did not have a work pot.
I began searching through the apartment. I went into the kitchen and looked through all of the cabinets. No work pot. I went into the bathroom and looked in the closet. No work pot. I even checked the bedroom closets. Still no work pot. The only place left to check was the closet with the air-conditioning unit. A quick search told me that the work pot was not there either. I started to doubt the ram in the bush story. But I heard a voice tell me to look in closet that held the air-conditioner unit again, but this time to look harder. I went back and still couldn’t see anything. But this time, I went a bit farther into the closet and there, in a dark area of the closet, I saw a bucket sitting way back in a corner. When I reached in and pulled it out, it was covered with spider webs. I knew that this was my ram in the bush. The Bible says that God knew us before we were even born. He knows everything about us, so He already knew that I was going to look for this work pot that in that particular closet. We are already written in His last book, which He calls The Book of Life, that He is writing. He is the author of that last book, so why shouldn’t we believe Him? He is the Alpha and the Omega, and He has already written all of our destinies, so when you are experiencing a bad situation, look for your ram in the bush because God already knows what you are going through before you go through it.
Chapter 13: BUTCH THE FUGITIVE CHIMPANZEE ATTACKED ME AND TERRORIZED THE NEIGHBORHOOD This Story Was Covered Dy TV- 12 Action NEWS In Jacksonville Florida.
The owner of Butch could not control him any longer in his traveling show. So he conned my father by selling him the chimpanzee for a very cheap price. He didn't tell my father all the trouble that he was buying for that cheap price. My father was looking at the attraction that the chimpanzee would add to his apartment complex on Trout River Drive. He was planning on building a large cage for Butch the chimpanzee but that never happened. Butch got away on the second day after he bought him. That's when the trouble started, he was too dangerous to keep. When you check out his story you'll see why we couldn't keep him.
In the year 1973, my father had went to Orlando. He drove past a traveling circus show and met one of the men who owned a chimpanzee named Butch. My father was drunk at this particular time and the man who owned Butch was looking for a way to get rid of him. He told my father that the chimpanzee was too old for the traveling show and that Butch did not like anyone with long hair. He said that every time that Butch would get mad and act up, he would just tell Butch that if he did not stop, he would bite him on his ear. It seemed to calm Butch down. The owner talked my father into buying Butch by telling my father if Butch wouldn’t be with a family, he would have no choice but to take him to a zoo. My father was told that Butch would be very cheap—only $85.
My father thought this was a great deal and bought the chimpanzee. The owner placed him in a cage that was 4’5” high and 3’5” wide. We were told not to let him out for two days and that the only things Butch needed to eat were fruits like oranges and bananas. He did not, however, tell us about the other types of food that contained the necessary vitamins that a chimpanzee would need in pellet form. After two days, I began going out to meet Butch in the cage. I’d stick my finger through the bars and he would lightly scratch my skin. Then he would take the finger that scratched me up to his nose and sniff it. I took this as a meaning that he liked me. He gave me sad eyes and would whimper, as if asking me to let him out. I took a chance and let him out on a chain and play with him. I told him to do flips and I ran around the yard with him. I took him in the house and we smoked cigarettes together and drank beer.
He showed me love and affection, but then when it was time to put him up, I told him, “Okay Butch. It’s time to go back to your cage.” He looked at me and screamed and shook his head no. I continued to tell him that he needed to go back to his cage and that I would take him out later. Still, he shook his head and put his hands on his head and stomped his feet. He was like a 6-year-old throwing a temper tantrum. I proceeded to tell him, “Butch, if you do not behave yourself and go in your cage, I will bite you on the ear.”That seemed to only make him madder and he showed me his teeth. I grabbed the chain and began pulling him toward the cage, but he was stronger and pulled against me and climbed up a tree near his cage.
I somehow managed to get him out of the tree. I began talking to him nicely. He let me think I was in control because he began to calm down and let me walk him back over to the cage. But chimpanzees are smart. The moment I let my guard down, he turned on me. He wrapped his two feet around my ankles and at the same time, hit me in the chest, knocking me to the ground. I tried to push him off of me, but he was so strong. One might not think that chimpanzees are strong animals, but you would be surprised. I tried to push him away, but he overpowered me and proceeded to open his mouth and show me his teeth as he was getting ready to bite me. I was stuck under him as he was holding me down on the ground.
He leaped toward my groin and tried to bite me in that area, but I grabbed his head and pushed it just in the nick of time and he chomped the inside of my thigh. I had to hit him three or four times in the head with his chain before he finally let go. Having earned his respect, I grabbed him by the collar and shouted at him as I shook him to get back into his cage. I was terrified of him, but I could not let him know it. I did not want him to have a chance to attack me again. He finally went back into his cage with no trouble and I hurried inside to check the area where he had bit me. I thought that I had been very lucky because my clothes had stopped him from tearing my flesh, but you could still indentations of his teeth on my thigh.
I went and told my brother, Tim, to not let Butch out of his cage and told him what had just happened. But Tim wouldn’t listen because he thought he could handle anything that might happen since he studied martial arts. Willing to take the chance, Tim placed the chain back around Butch's neck and proceeded to take him out of the cage. Butch was ecstatic to be back out. Tim took him back in the house and the first thing Butch went for was the peanut butter and he proceeded to make himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Seeing him there in the kitchen made me think that he must have done this before. He not only made himself a sandwich, but he also made a sandwich for Tim.
It was as if they had become instant best friends. They sat down together and ate their sandwiches as they watched TV. After they finished their sandwiches, Butch got up and grabbed a Budweiser from the fridge. Butch guzzled two bottles like water. He seemed to really like them. As Tim lit up a cigarette, Butch came over and sat in his lap. The two began to share the cigarette—first Butch would take a puff and then Tim would. I was still leery of Butch and decided to keep my distance, so I went outside to walk and that’s when Butch decided to chase me. He must have remembered that I was the one who hit him in the head and wanted to let me know that he was very angry with me. I slammed the door as I made it outside and he hit the door.
For a second, I thought he’d break it off its hinges. I thought that he definitely wanted to attack me again, so I went to the other side of the house where he would not see me. After he calmed back down, Tim took Butch outside to play with him and then proceeded to put him back into the cage. But Butch wanted to let Tim know that he would never go back in that cage again. Butch did the same thing to my brother as he did to me. He grabbed my brother around both of his ankles using his feet to hold then and hit him in the chest knocking him down to the ground. Butch was definitely out of control.
He showed Tim his teeth as he went to bite him in his face, but Tim used his martial arts training and grabbed hold of Butch’s hands before kicking the chimpanzee in the stomach and sent him flying over his head. As soon as Butch hit the ground, he came back at him and knocked my brother back down on the ground, beating him in his face with only his knuckles. Tim’s face was a bloody mess when Butch got through with him. Tim managed to get away from Butch and Butch’s chain became loose and he ran to our neighbor’s yard and climbed up on their roof.
The 17-year-old who was living in the house at the time saw him and thought that Butch was friendly chimpanzee, so he climbed out of the window and went out on the roof. But Butch was out of control and grabbed the kid and through him back through the window. Butch climbed down from the house, ran into the street, and jumped in front of a car, stopping this little old lady who was driving at the time. She slammed her brakes and as Butch reached through her open windows to try to grab her, she had already grabbed her black bag and had started to beat him over his head, screaming as loud as she could. Her screams were much louder than Butch’s and I think that’s what scared him away. Butch didn't want any part of this little old lady.
Butch jumped out of her car,and he made his way into another neighbor’s yard. They had a tree where flowerpots were hanging from its branches. Butch decided it looked like a swing set suited for a chimpanzee and climbed up the tree and started swinging from the pots. Our neighbor had two German shepherds who tried to bite Butch. He quickly jumped on their backs and grabbed their collars. He held the two dogs together while they were yelping as he rode them around the back yard. It looked like a circus act.
The lady heard the commotion going on in the backyard so she looked out her back door and she saw Butch on top of her dogs so she grabbed the broom and came out running and proceeded to hit Butch on top of his head. That made Butch release her dogs, and made Butch somehow managed to get into our next door neighbors garage and rummage around. He had found our neighbors battery charger and smashed it into a million pieces. He also managed to find a bucket of red paint and proceeded to paint our neighbor’s car with it. Of course, by now, we were looking at BIG lawsuits. After our neighbor saw what Butch had done to his battery charger he was furious and he came over to me and asked me who owned this animal. I didn't want to tell him that I owned the chimpanzee and I told him that my father will take care all the damages that Butch had done.
That helped to calm him down just a little bit. I told him I would get Butch out of his garage. We were lucky he had a water hose right beside the door with a jet nozzle. We turned on the water and started to wet him up. Butch didn't like that too much so he ran out the garage into to another neighbor’s yard. By this time, I was terrified of him, but I knew he was doing way too much damage to property. I wasn’t sure how else to get him under control, so I hurried and found a two by four and went to hit Butch over his head to knock him out. Unfortunately, Butch saw me with the two by four in my hand. He looked at me, shook his head, beat his knuckles into the ground, and charged toward me, showing me his teeth. Adrenaline was coursing through me and I swung at him with the two by four. He ducked, grabbed the two by four in my hand, and snapped it in half. I knew then that if he could snap a two by four in half, he could easily snap my leg or my arm in half. Thankfully, he ran past me.
I had no other choice I had to call animal control. I told them that we had a wild chimpanzee and that they needed to bring a tranquilizer gun to shoot him so that we could put Butch back in his cage before he hurt anybody. By this time, the Florida Union Times had heard about everything that was going on. As we waited for animal control, we had to keep an eye on him, so Tim and I chased him down the road. Butch made it to an area where workers were working in a ditch and the foreman was wearing a bright, shiny metal hat, which I think is what attracted Butch. Without waiting, Butch ran over to the ditch and jumped on the foreman’s back. The foreman began to scream and climb out of the ditch with Butch still on his back. Butch took the man’s hat off and waved it around, as if the foreman was a bucking bronco.
The workers were hysterically laughing at the foreman as he started running and screaming, someone get this gorilla off my back! Help! Help! get this monkey off my back and then he finally grabbed hold of Butch’s arms and threw him to the side of the road. Startled, Butch ran all the way back to our house. By that time, police had already arrived and we told them the situation. We had thought we would need to shoot him down, but Butch had been out for a few hours by then and he was getting tired. When he spotted the policemen, I thought for sure that he would attack them. He walked up to a policeman, put his arm around him, and gave him a big hug and kiss! The policeman came over to me and told me that Butch did not show any tendency to be mean or show any signs of aggression. That same policeman then proceeded to put Butch back into his cage without any trouble at all.
The news media surrounded us and asked us all sorts of question about Butch. But no matter what we told them, the news media had other ideas. They began to write up their own version of the story and called him “Butch the Fugitive.”After the incident, we decided he was just too dangerous to keep, so we contacted the Jacksonville Zoo. They fell in love with him immediately. The zoo kept him for about two years and my whole family had a free pass to the zoo for the entire time they kept him. Even though Butch was at the zoo, he caused trouble there too. We had forgotten that he did not like people with long hair and one day, a kid with long hair went up to the cage to see Butch and Butch grabbed hold of the kid and broke his arm.
The zoo decided to keep him, but they put him on an island surrounded by water. Butch didn’t get along with the other chimpanzees, so they had to find someplace else to put him. People think that chimps make good pets, but I and my family know better. Recently, there was a story about a woman who had her face tore off her name was Charla Nash. Here is a link of her story if you want to see how dangerous chimpanzees could be. Copy and paste this link in your browser https://youtu.be/UXLpivwdhM8 Chimpanzees have up to five times the upper body strength of a human , an angered chimpanzee could easily overpower and potentially kill even a fully grown man,
